Art, Not Apart

Now I am late on posting about this, I may or may not have forgotten that these photos were on my camera. Yet here they are better late then never. Canberra held an event called Art, Not Apart, now this showcase of local artists does not only happen in Canberra it happens all over Australia’s Capital Cities.

This was the first time I went and became utterly amazed with the hidden talent that my city had to offer. The event was fun, laid back. It had great food, great people, great everything. I was completely impressed. I got to meet local artist and my friends and I also had a crack at street art, well in a way. All we needed was some butchers paper, some markers, a wall and wall paper glue. Which they had very gracefully provided, so we spent probably an hour just sitting on the ground drawing before cutting our artwork out and placing our artwork on the wall that multiple talented people had already placed there’s.

All and all it was an amazing day, full of what Canberra has to offer and I will definitely being going again next year, I recommend it.

Formal Season

Its formal season!! And although this is a good thing, I often have nightmares of the horrible dresses that we all know are coming.

My dreams have been plagued for weeks by the idea of pink satin being sequined everywhere (even though the dress barely covers anything).

I have been combating this with the endless hours that are being spent in stores and online looking for the dress that will debut me into the wonderful world of formals. ( I have found one YAY)

So okay, in formal dress shopping there is a definate no fly zone, this includeds sequin’s in strange places and anysort of animal print. You may disgree with me and sure there is the 0.0009% of pilots that can pull it off and bravley go where no other should. Below being some examples.

You may now be screaming what other options is there on the vast landscape of formal dress shopping.

But now I must tell all those poor souls on the joy they are missing out on. Sites like ASOS and dissh.com.au provide a great platform for formal dress shoping. Some people are fooled by the way that these websites photograph the dresses, the majority of the pictures give more of a casual vibe to them. Though if you just use your imagination you are able to see great possibility’s.

A simple dress with some statement jewelry and a pop colour bag makes for a gorgeous formal outfit.

So for all of you formal dress shoppers remember pink satin is never the right choice.

Rebel Attitudes

So I am Re-blogging this from my other photography blog and wish to share because of the unique way that this project actually turned out. The theme was Fads and immediately I went to James Dean and the cool guys that smoked, and though I am not endorsing smoking in any sort of way. The overall look can be accomplished without it, which is a bonus, I mean who doesn’t want to be the cool guy or girl with the leather jacket and the rebel attitude.

Hipsley Lane, Op Shop Heaven

Now we all know that Canberra is not notorious for fabulous op shopping. Not to fear their is hope yet, last Thursday night I headed out to newly opened Hipsley Lane; a boutique that has bought in %100 Vintage clothes all the way from the US. Hipsley Lane is located in Braddon, Canberra’s hotspot for all your trendy second hand needs. On Thursday, Hipsley Lane held a See, Try, Buy event for the first 50 people in which proceeds went to lifeline. Meaning there was lots of satisfaction when the wallet came out to buy a pair of awesome shorts and some all natural nail polish,

This event turned out to be nothing short from a success, from there range to there incredibly helpful staff and even the makeshift change rooms that only added to the positive and friendly vibe that Hipsley Lane bought to the table.

I would suggest to all Canberra op shop goers to check this place out because you will not be disappointed. There is no doubt in my mind that Hipsley Lane will become a regular spot for all my op shopping needs. The address is shop 2 / 27 Lonsdale Street Braddon, Canberra, Hope that you will all check it out.

The Reblog

Hello, hello, hello,

For one; I will start by apologizing for the 1 month hiatus from the wardrobe, and alas it was because of a school trip to the top end of Australia, and yes it was amazing and very hot. Yet when returning to the ever so exciting city of Canberra, I found the whether to be not quite so accommodating, after a couple of days of hibernating and acclimatizing, I headed out into the town and found that I needed to break out my winter gear again. Disappointing this may be; I found reviewing the layer technique was quite challenging, especially after 2 weeks of shorts and singlets for reasons none other then the ability to actually move.

The layer technique has been around for years and has served humanity very well. Putting together an outfit that is to suit the whether can be a challenge, especially in Canberra, we all no that one minute its a fine 18 degrees and the next it 7 and raining. When I decide that I will leave my nice warm house it usually takes me about a billion outfit changes and switches before I get it right, These outfits can range from a jumper with a pair of shorts or maybe some jeans and a singlet, these mix and match whether outfits both combat the whether and the trends and will hopefully set you up with for the change in whether as we head into spring.

Loving the Long skirt

Now, summer is approaching and I know that I am heading in the direction of skirts, mainly because of the lack of quality short shopping that is in Canberra.. The long skirt is going to be a must have in everyone’s wardrobe, it is incredibly flattering and creates such a elegant and perfect look for the up an coming season. I hope you all agree and will take it on board when you shop for your new wardrobe.

Model Profile: Alexa Chung

20120902-195904.jpg

Alexa Chung, the British supermodel that reminds me more of the girl next door, her flawless figure and impeccable taste leave nothing to be desired. Now I have been promising this post for a while now, I am hoping that Model Profiles will become a monthly style post that allows you to see into the wonderful world of models. I am starting with my favorite model. When I look at Alexa Chung I become ever so continually amazed by her, she is not distant in any of her photographs, you can see her, they are honest.

Now for the important stuff, Alexa Chung’s style. What she wears is always flattering in style and perfectly suited to her personality. For example in the photographs below, you can see that she has dressed exquisitely to fit every situation no matter how different, from the red carpet to festivals.

I find that it’s better to get style ideas from what models like Alexa Chung wear when there not on the runway, this is because they still have the front row seats in fashion, yet are not being exaggerated by the runway. I hope these tips help you along your fashion journey.

Online Opportunities

Now any native Canberran’s knows the op shop is a tough one to come by. I know I usually rummage through the back shelves and little hidey holes that you find out the back of Vinnie’s and salvos. So instead a great deal of us head to the online world to fill that void.

And now my friend Lily ( above ) tells all about her tricks of the trade and the way too spot a good look.

The shopping destinations in Canberra are slim, so online shopping has become somewhat of a rave,  Lily has provided us with her favorite website for all her shopping needs, this online store is ASOS, now I pray to the heavens you all have heard of this miracle contraption.  If not Google it straight away in order for amazement to happen. It is none other then a god on earth.
ASOS is a leading brand in today’s street fashion and now provides many young fashion forward men and women with a one stop shop for all their fashion needs. This leaves no short end of the straws, no gaping holes of missed trends, and no loss of trendiness.. Making ASOS one of the best online shopping destinations, so get your debit cards out and click away to the glory of this online shop.

Lily tells us her number one tip with putting together an outfit and it is ‘ Colour coding’ and me agreeing vigorously with her. I mean there’s actually nothing worse then seeing great individual pieces of clothing put together in ways that are un- imaginable to any one with any sort of taste.
With this in mind and Lily’s style in your head keep on the look out in the online world of fashion for your next hidey hole of style.
